Last weekend, I found myself in Meru for a night that turned out to be nothing short of magical.

Black & White Scotch Whisky hosted an unforgettable monochromatic affair at Checkmate Lounge on March 29th, blending great whisky with electrifying live music.

For me, this night was more than just another event—it was my first time experiencing H_Art The Band live, and that alone made it special.

The night started off slow. By 9 PM, the crowd was thin, and we couldn’t help but wonder if people would actually show up. But just as doubt started creeping in, Meru proved us wrong. By 10:30 PM, the place was packed, buzzing with excitement and an electric energy that only good music and great whisky can bring.

A Playful Start to the Night

Walking into the venue, I was immediately immersed in the Black & White world. It wasn’t just about whisky—it was an experience.

From interactive games like Jenga and miniature bowling to a curated cocktail tasting, everything was designed to make whisky fun and approachable. I got to try Black & White’s signature cocktails, and let me tell you, they were smooth, easy to drink, and perfect for the lively vibe of the night. I particularly enjoyed the Black & White Apple flavor.

Add in the special offers on meal platters and branded merchandise, and it was clear that Black & White was going all out to make this a memorable night.

Black & White is all about breaking down barriers and making Scotch whisky accessible to everyone,” said George Karume, EABL Shopper Manager Premium Spirits. “We want our consumers to feel empowered to create their own perfect blend of tradition and their own individual expression, adding vibrancy to their everyday moments. This event in Meru was a perfect example of that.”

And honestly, this event embodied that perfectly—it was whisky without the stiffness, just good vibes and good times.

H_Art The Band: A Dream Come True

Then came the moment I had been waiting for—H_Art The Band hit the stage. I’ve always been a fan, but seeing them perform live for the first time was something else. They kicked off with their classic hits like Uliza Kiatu and El Shaddai, and the crowd sang along word for word. It was surreal. Their setlist was a perfect mix of nostalgia and fresh tracks, keeping everyone on their feet, vibing to every beat.

There was something magical about the way they engaged with the audience. It wasn’t just a performance—it was an experience, a moment we all shared together. The energy, the passion, the pure joy in the air—it was everything I had hoped for and more.

A Night That Kept Going

After their performance, VJ Kay-gee Karuga took over the decks again, ensuring the party didn’t stop. The music, the dancing, the drinks—everything blended together into an epic night out.

Looking back, the Black & White Affair in Meru wasn’t just another whisky event. It was a celebration—of good music, good company, and the playful side of scotch.

Since 1904, Black & White has been about elevating everyday moments, and on this night, they did just that.

For my first time seeing H_Art The Band live, the unexpected thrill of a growing crowd, the smooth whisky that kept us going—this was a night I won’t forget. And if this is what Black & White is all about, then count me in for the next one!
