From its clean and serene environment to its well-mapped routes, and oh my God the waterfall.
My beautiful people, I give you….
Oloolua Nature Trail is in all honesty, a hidden gem, found in the neighborhoods of Karen, Nairobi.
I had had a long stressful week and I decided I needed a break from everything that was going on. So I googled destinations around me and came across the Oloolua nature trail. I really love nature, and images from my Google Search had me hooked on trying the serene nature trail. So Mimi huyo, all the way to Karen.
I get anxious anytime I’m visiting somewhere new. This time was no different, that I can promise you.
Oloolua features beautiful attraction sites that offer a balance to people of all ages. The trail has a mapped-out route which also helps you retrace your steps in case you get lost.
- A beautiful waterfall
I absolutely loved the ambiance around the waterfall. Like I could sit there, meditate, have long conversations, and never get bored. God, this was the highlight of my trip.
The rushing sounds of the water as it cascades have this calming effect on you. I don’t exactly know how I’ll put that into words. I felt free. I felt alive. I felt calm.
If you’re looking for a perfect couples’ photoshoot spot, this is it, guys.
2. A Natural Cave
An interesting fact about this cave is that it was used by the MauMau Freedom Fighters. Let it be known that I was too scared to go in 😁. A Mzungu lady and her kids did go in. That’s all the representation I needed.
3. Camp-site / Picnic Site
The camping site offers a lot of space. There are also Loos, trash-bins and clean water. You can relax.
CHARGES
The entry fee for Kenyan Citizens is Ksh. 200 per adult and Ksh.100 for children.
In case you’re interested in camping, the charges are Ksh. 2,000 per adult and Ksh. 1,000 for children, per night.
For a group of ten people, the charges are Ksh. 5,000.
TIPS
I’d advise you to dress comfortably. If you’ll be doing the nature trail please carry comfortable shoes. I was in a dress when I visited the trail, and I was quite comfortable in it. It wasn’t exactly a hindrance. Please, do you.
I visited Oloolua on a Weekday, and I loved the place even more. The trail wasn’t crowded, adding to the magic. I’d definitely recommend visiting on a Weekday.
Carry enough water and a few snacks to munch on. You could decide to have a picnic after the walk, and bring a Maasai shuka with you for that.
Most of all, remember to bring good company with you and have fun. Let go and have fun.
