The 16 days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence is an annual international campaign that kicks off on 25 November, the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women, and runs until 10 December, Human Rights Day.

FUN FACT: These dates were chosen to link violence against women and human rights and emphasize that gender-based violence against women violates human rights. This 16-day period also highlights significant dates including 29 November, International Women’s Human Rights Defenders Day; and 1 December, World AIDS Day.

Originating from the first Women’s Global Leadership Institute in 1991, the campaign continues to be coordinated annually by the Center for Women’s Global Leadership.
