The 6th edition of the Women in Film Awards (WIFA) brought together Kenya’s most talented female filmmakers, storytellers, and industry professionals for a night of recognition, empowerment, and celebration.

This prestigious event honored women whose remarkable contributions continue to shape the country’s film industry.

Hosted at the Kenya National Theatre, this year’s awards, in partnership with Gordon’s, the No.1 International Gin brand, coincided with International Women’s Day—a fitting occasion to spotlight the trailblazing women redefining Kenyan cinema.

The ceremony celebrated excellence in various categories, including directing, screenwriting, cinematography, and production, reinforcing the essential role of women in driving the creative sector forward.

Reflecting on the event’s impact, Dr. Susan Gitimu, Founder of WIFA, highlighted the importance of sustained support for women in film. “WIFA is more than just an awards ceremony—it’s a movement. It’s about recognizing talent, creating opportunities, and advocating for inclusivity in the industry. The growth of WIFA is a testament to the resilience of female creatives, and we are grateful for partners like Gordon’s, who share our vision of empowering women in film.”

The evening saw the crowning of winners across multiple categories, including Best Actress TV Drama, Best Set Designer, Best Script Supervisor, and Best Cinematographer, celebrating women whose work has significantly influenced the industry.

Speaking at the event, Zipporah Ndung’u, Senior Brand Manager, Gordon’s Kenya, expressed the brand’s pride in being part of this momentous occasion: “We are thrilled to celebrate the outstanding contributions of women in film. These creatives are breaking boundaries, reshaping narratives, and inspiring the next generation of female filmmakers. Partnering with WIFA allows us to support their journey, ensuring they receive the recognition they deserve.”

The red carpet dazzled with glamour, vibrant conversations, and a shared commitment to advancing women in the film industry. To cap off the evening, Gordon’s treated guests to expertly crafted cocktails, providing a perfect setting for networking among industry leaders, filmmakers, and aspiring creatives.

As WIFA continues to champion representation, investment, and recognition for women in film, Gordon’s proudly raises a glass to their success—toasting to a future where women’s stories take center stage in Kenyan and global cinema.
