As the world celebrates World Gin Day, Gordon’s – the No. 1 international gin brand – is shaking things up with a fresh, local twist: tea-inspired cocktails that elevate the classic Kenyan teatime into a bold, at-home mixology experience.
To mark the occasion, Gordon’s hosted an exclusive gin masterclass at the Holiday Inn Nairobi. The event brought together gin lovers, mixologists, and curious enthusiasts to discover how everyday Kenyan staples – from locally sourced teas to indigenous herbs – can infuse new life into at-home cocktails.
The session was led by renowned mixologist Francis Mutunga, popularly known as Smiles, who showcased creative blends using Gordon’s London Dry, Sicilian Lemon, and Premium Pink gins. By pairing these iconic flavours with herbal teas, native spices, and fresh botanicals, attendees were introduced to a fuss-free, flavour-forward way to enjoy gin from the comfort of home.
“We know Kenyans have a rich tea-drinking culture embedded in our identity. By combining this cultural cornerstone with the versatility of Gordon’s, we are inspiring new, playful, and approachable ways for consumers to enjoy gin at home. It’s exciting to see the uptake of unique cocktails like these tea cocktails, and I couldn’t be prouder to see Gordon’s leading the gin category on this front,”— Elizabeth Otieno, Brand Manager, Gordon’s.
The tea cocktail experience is part of Gordon’s ongoing efforts to make gin more exciting, accessible, and locally relevant. As more Kenyans lean into intentional, home-based unwinding, Gordon’s is championing creative, culturally rooted pairings that honour tradition while encouraging fun experimentation.
