Your Samsung phone and smart fridge are about to speak the same language. Samsung is expanding its One UI platform from smartphones to home appliances, creating a unified experience across all your devices.

What This Means for Your Home

Starting in September, Samsung’s 2024 smart appliances will receive major software updates that bring the same familiar interface you know from Samsung phones and TVs to your kitchen and laundry room.

“By bringing One UI to smart appliances, we are transforming the way people interact with technology in their homes,” said Jeong Seung Moon, Samsung’s EVP for Digital Appliances. “This consistency ensures that the experience feels natural and familiar across all our devices.”

Seven Years of Updates

Perhaps most importantly, Samsung is committing to seven years of software updates for Wi-Fi-enabled appliances launched from 2024 onwards. This means your smart fridge or washing machine will stay current with new features and security patches for nearly a decade.

What’s Coming in September

  • Enhanced Security: Knox Matrix protection will extend to refrigerators, washers, dryers, and air conditioners, allowing your appliances to monitor each other’s security status.
  • Smarter Features: Family Hub refrigerators get upgraded AI that recognizes more packaged foods, while Bixby learns to identify individual family members’ voices for personalized responses.
  • Better Interface: The refreshed One UI design from 2025 models comes to 2024 appliances, making navigation more intuitive.
  • Expanded Services: Samsung TV Plus streaming adds support for Canada, Brazil, and India, while washing machines gain eight additional Indian languages.

The Bigger Picture

This move creates a seamless ecosystem where your phone, TV, and appliances all work together through SmartThings integration. Features like Now Brief will show personalized information – from weather updates to how much time is left on your washing cycle – across different screens in your home.

For Samsung users, this means learning one interface that works everywhere, making your smart home truly feel integrated rather than like a collection of separate gadgets.
