Samsung Electronics has announced plans to acquire FläktGroup, a top global provider of HVAC (heating, ventilation, and air conditioning) systems, for €1.5 billion. The deal is being made with European investment firm Triton.
This move comes as the global HVAC market continues to grow quickly, and it reflects Samsung’s commitment to expanding in this space.
“Through the acquisition of FläktGroup, an applied HVAC specialist, Samsung Electronics has laid the foundation to become a leader in the global HVAC business, offering a full range of solutions to our customers,” said TM Roh, Acting Head of Samsung’s Device eXperience (DX) Division. “Our commitment is to continue investing in and developing the high-growth HVAC business as a key future growth engine.”
FläktGroup, headquartered in Germany, has been in the business for over 100 years and is known for its reliable and efficient systems. Their products are used in places that need precise air control—like data centers, museums, airports, and hospitals. The company has grown significantly in recent years, especially in the data center cooling sector. Their advanced cooling technologies help reduce energy use and support sustainability goals. Last year, they won the DCS Cooling Innovation of the Year Award for their tech breakthroughs.
“We are extremely pleased that FläktGroup has become a part of Samsung Electronics,” said Trevor Young, CEO of FläktGroup. “FläktGroup, as a global top-tier HVAC specialist with over a century of expertise, has been relied on by global large clients for its technological and product innovations. Now, with Samsung Electronics’ global business foundation and investment, we expect to further accelerate our growth.”
In addition to data centers, FläktGroup works with over 60 major clients across the pharmaceutical, biotech, food and beverage, and manufacturing industries.
Why HVAC Matters to Samsung
The HVAC industry is growing fast, driven by demand for smarter, energy-efficient air systems. Samsung has identified it as a key area for future investment and growth. The company is also exploring new sectors like robotics, medical tech, and audio.
Analysts predict the HVAC market will grow from $61 billion in 2024 to $99 billion by 2030. The data center cooling segment alone is expected to grow even faster—about 18% each year.
With technologies like AI, robotics, and autonomous vehicles on the rise, Samsung sees huge demand for advanced cooling solutions.
By combining Samsung’s smart building system (b.IoT) with FläktGroup’s controls (FläktEdge), the two companies aim to offer full building and energy management solutions, including expanded services and maintenance.
Samsung has already been growing its HVAC presence, especially in ductless air systems for homes and businesses. Earlier in 2024, it also formed a joint venture with Lennox International to boost its presence in North America.
The deal is expected to be finalized in 2025.
